How to Elongate your Summer Vibes
There’s talk about Fall being just around the corner. Stores are debuting their Autumn collection and Vogue is listing the best fall wedding guest dresses. Yet you’re here clinging onto summer for dear life. You and I are one in the same, dear. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Fall. I’m just not in a hurry to rush summer out the door. In fact, I’m going to do my best to trap the sun-kissed, aperol-spritz infused days in my life as long as I can.
For as long as I could book a flight ticket myself, I’ve been running off to somewhere sunny in the months of September and October. This seems to be an unpopular method, but where most people book their summer vacations in, well, summer, I book mine at the start of fall. Where I live (NYC), summers are pretty great as is, so I don’t see much of a need to leave. Escapes become necessary when the cool air begins to creep in and I want to elongate my hot girl days. That’s when I book it.
So, if you’re reading this and thinking “yessss, that’s me!” then I have a list of places to go to that will extend your summer. Fall descends upon these cities a few weeks, sometimes months, later than here on the east coast. So if you’re having trouble letting go of seaside dinners and cold cold white wine, keep reading.
1. Lisbon, Portugal
I’m a die-hard Portugal fan. Particularly Lisbon sits near and dear to my heart. This is the city that boasts some of the most beautiful ocean-view lookout spots, breathtaking sunsets, and endless dinner and brunch spots. But most of all, there’s an electricity in the culture, in the people, in the fellow visitors, that’s unlike any other European city I’ve been to. Summers here last about one month longer than the east coast, so it’s a perfect destination for an extended summer experience.

2. Marrakesh, Morocco
Are summers not really about beaches for you? Then going to Marrakesh will be a real treat to your culture-hungry eyes. A city so rich with colors, flavors, and history, your senses are guaranteed to be overloaded with inspiration. Count this as a life-changing trip, but I encourage you to do a fair share of preparation before heading out.

3. Split, Croatia
While Italy seems to be everyone’s go-to summer destination, I actually quite prefer Croatia. I have never seen water as inviting as the ones in Split. You’re going to find tons of rock formations that dip straight into crystal clear waters. There’s no better feeling for me than sitting by an ocean-side restaurant drinking $6 wine and eating mussels.

4. Bali, Indonesia
If you’re willing to fly quite a distance, then you have to put Bali on your list. As a matter of fact, I think everyone needs to go to Bali at least once in their lifetimes. To be fair, it’s hot here all year round, so you can come here in October, January, and March all the same. I encourage you to engage with the people there as much as you do the scenery, the coffee shops, and the beach clubs. They are some of the friendliest people in the world.

5. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Going down south? I know that Mexico probably popped up as your first option (and it’s a great option! I recommend Playa Del Carmen ;) But if you’ve been there, done that, then I encourage you to consider Punta Cana. It’s truly a tropical dream, made of white sands, blue oceans, and a couple of great places to party.

6. Malaga, Spain
I’ve never been here myself, but it currently sits on the top of my list. Malaga boasts miles and miles of beach, and it’s a less sought-after destination than, say, Ibiza. It’s a beautiful blend of city life, beach life, culture, and food. Not to mention, there’s plenty of surrounding cities and towns a simple day trip away, so you’ll get a lot out of this experience.

7. Sorrento, Italy
Everybody loves to talk about Naples and the Amalfi coast, but hello!? Has anyone ever been to Sorrento? To be fair, I only passed by, but it left such an impression in those mere 2 hours that I’m craving to go back. It’s basically a (mildy) less crowded version of Positano, and a little more city-like. I highly recommend this location for an end-of-summer trip!
